Biogas option for Glenmorangie distillery

  • Technology

Issue:

A new wastewater treatment plant for the distillery of the Glenmorangie Company in Tain, Ross-shire, Scotland is under construction and features use of anaerobic digestion to produce biogas for use at the site.

The main contractor on the project is United Utilities, while the heart of the treatment is being designed and built by Aquabio, part of the Freudenberg group. The company’s low energy Anaerobic Membrane Bioreactor Plant, AnMBR LE, is being deployed to improve the quality of the discharge from the distillery. Biogas produced will be used to power the boilers that heat the stills, reducing the site’s fossil fuel requirement.
