Bathing water quality progress continues for Europe

The European Environment Agency has released its bathing water quality assessment for 2016, reporting continued progress across Europe but with further need for improvement in some areas.

The top-line figures show that standards for reported coastal and inland bathing waters continue to improve. More than 96% of sites out of a total of more than 21,000 met minimum standards in 2016, with more than 85% meeting the ‘excellent’ standard of the EU Bathing Water Directive.
