Municipal sewage / wastewater treatment

The core function of municipal sewage or wastewater treatment is to remove contaminants to the extent needed to safely return water to the environment according to relevant regulations. The sewage sludge solids generated also need to be dealt with, often processed into biosolids for agricultural use. It is an area undergoing change and innovation, with increasing interest in opportunities to create energy self-sufficient treatment plants and to recover resources such as phosphates.
