The UK government’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has issued a long-term costing tool for flood and coastal risk management, prepared for the Environment Agency by JBA Consulting

The tool summarises the evidence on the costs of a wide range of management measures, and is provided as a collection of reports and as a spreadsheet tool to help practitioners build up whole life cost estimates easily.

The first note provides general advice on undertaking whole life cost estimates, and the rest look at specific measures including channel management, flood storage, coastal erosion and protection, SUDs and urban drainage, temporary and demountable barriers, and flood warning and forecasting.

The tool can also be used as a framework for creating detailed cost estimates where practitioners have their own, more detailed data to use as input.
