Micropollutants

Awareness and understanding of the risks posed by the release into the environment of the ever-growing number of chemcial substances, especially pharmaceuticals, continue to grow. A whole range of actions and changes may well be needed by society as a whole to address these micropollutants or emerging pollutants. Many of the substances reach sewage treatment plants, meaning these facilities are one potential opportunity to reduce the risks, and countries such as Germany and Switzerland are already investing in actions to achieve exactly this.
