Most water utilities face the challenge of meeting the needs of an increasing number of customers, and many are having to plan with the prospect of greater uncertainty because of the impact of climate change on resource availability. In this issue’s cover story, we look at the UK’s Southern Water and its efforts to promote water efficiency to help ensure future supply security.

In other features, we look at the research projects being supported by the Water Environment & Reuse Foundation in the US to build smart water utilities. We also look at how Wessex Water in the UK is starting to roll out centralised control of pumping across its network, as its largest network infrastruture project to date nears completion.
